Not interested in staying up late to party on New Year's Eve? If you're here visiting Maui, there's a much more family-friendly option available. Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, Maui's biggest shopping mall, will be hosting a celebration of their own, but instead of midnight festivities, they've decided to throw a bash at noon.
"Let's NOON Year's Eve Together" is a mid-day extravaganza for all comers, with plenty of family festivities, including a giant balloon drop that will take place at noon on Saturday, December 31st. The celebration will begin at 11am and end at 1pm, but there are still plenty of interesting things to do at the mall, which anchors a multitude of stores and a movie theater.
The great thing about this celebration is that there are fun things to do no matter what your group is like. Visiting with your kids? You'll find keiki (kids) crafts, face painting, and balloon making. Will you be out and about with your sweetheart? You might enjoy the strolling magic, which basically means magicians performing their tricks and illusions on the go. There will even be hats, tiaras and horns for those who want to add a little festive fun to their appearance.
Yes, there will even be a countdown to noon, when the balloon drop will happen. Some may think it's odd to celebrate before it's technically New Year's Day, but hey, time is relative, right? There's no rule book for celebrating holidays, and you can be as traditional or creative as you like. In fact, you could join this celebration at noon and then another at midnight, if you have the energy.
In any case, Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center is worth a visit if you like to shop, or you're looking for something in particular. For example, if you're on vacation and want to find something special that you can treasure, there are several high-end jewelry stores full of unique items. If you're looking for a tasty meal on a budget, there are several fun restaurants to choose from, not to mention a robust food court. If you're in search of entertainment, you could catch a movie, or bring the kids to the Fun Factory if they like arcades.
Speaking of the Fun Factory, a live DJ will be spinning tunes at the event and giving away prizes from $5 to $100 in value, including Fun Factory prize packs. These prizes will be given away every 15 minutes. While you're there, you might want to participate in the new QKC Resolution Wall, where you can share your individual and family resolutions for 2017. Who knows? You might inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
