Day Trip to Lahaina

If you're brainstorming to find fun things to do on your Maui vacation, you may like the option of a day trip to Lahaina in West Maui. This part of the island is beautiful and full of charm, which you might expect from the former capital of Hawaii. Another of its defining features is its isolation, perched at the western edge of the West Maui mountains, about 20 miles away, if you're staying in Kihei or Wailea. The duration of the drive can vary a lot depending on traffic, but the dramatic ocean views from up on the cliff sides are breathtaking. If you engage our Maui transportation services, everyone in your group can make the most of the views and the trip without worrying about driving or trying to find your way around.

We recommend that you plan to arrive in West Maui in the morning. That way, you can stop and spend some time at one of the many gorgeous beaches that can be found from Olowalu all the way to Kapalua. Maui's beaches are always best visited in the mornings when conditions tend to be calmest. Most of them also feature coral reefs of various sizes, so you can start your day with a bit of swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling as well. Spend a morning like this and you're sure to work up an appetite, which brings us to the next stop.

Lahaina is a lovely, historic beach town, featuring an impressive collection of historic sites, shops, restaurants, boutiques, museums, and more art galleries than you'll find almost anywhere. If you're ready for a meal, you can find everything from delicious local food trucks to elegant gourmet restaurants. There's something for every budget when you eat in Lahaina, and you'll find that a cheap bite to eat can be as tasty as an expensive meal, or sometimes even tastier. Once you're sated, you can set about exploring the town.

The shops and art galleries are enough to keep most visitors busy, but there are plenty of unique features that are worth a checking out as well. If you like museums, drop by the Historic Baldwin home, and/or the Wo Hing Museum. Lahaina's most popular attraction is the Banyan Tree, which takes up a whole city block and provides soothing shade and endless photo opportunities. You'll even find arts and crafts vendors selling unique Maui-made items under its sprawling canopy. Interested in striking out on an ocean adventure? The scenic Lahaina Harbor is full of charters that feature whale watch tours, sunset cruises, fishing trips, snorkeling tours, a submarine tour and more. Perhaps you'd like to try a sunset dinner cruise off Lahaina's stunning coastline. Otherwise, there are several restaurants that overlook the ocean and feature outdoor seating with wide open sunset views.

We hope these ideas have been helpful and inspiring! If you need our transportation services to make the most of this experience, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. If you opt to handle your own transportation, we hope you have a safe and memorable journey! For future Maui vacation ideas, check our blog each Friday.
