Hula O Na Keiki Competition in West Maui

Some of Maui’s most celebrated features are here to be enjoyed all year round. You can visit the beaches, the waterfalls, the restaurants, and fascinating attractions like the Maui Ocean Center throughout all the seasons. On the other hand, some of the best experiences that you can have on Maui are at the lively events taking place only on certain days of the year. The 26th Hula O Nā Keiki competition is a perfect example, and if you’re interested in hula, you might want to learn more about this celebrated event.

Hula O Nā Keiki is a hula competition for children, ages 5-17. Yes, it may be hard to imagine anything cuter than a host of tiny hula dancers, but don’t let their adorable features and diminutive size fool you! Learning hula at a young age makes these performers very good at this ancient Hawaiian dance form, and on top of that, some of them just have a knack for it. One thing they all have in common is that they worked hard to make it to the competition.

The performances include both dance and chant so as to nurture Hawaiian cultural values in the keiki and their audience. The event is one big educational experience that showcases the richness of Hawaii’s native culture, which still persists today. As Hawaii continues to change, events like these help to keep that culture alive and well for future generations to learn from.

Participants will be awarded with prizes made by master artisans from The Hawaiian Festival of Arts & Crafts, who will also display their workmanship and hold workshops so that guests may become better acquainted with various traditional Hawaiian creations.

If you’re interested in attending this wonderful event, it will be held on November 11th and 12th, 2016, in the Kanahele Ball Room of Kaanapali Beach Hotel, where you can find more details.
