We can hardly believe it ourselves but the Maui Film Festival has already come and gone. What is certainly one of the most exciting events on the island did not disappoint this year and brought with it plenty of eventful moments to last us until next year. Here’s a recap on what you missed in case you weren’t able to make it to this year’s festivities.

As usual, the multi-day event brought together plenty of celebrities, chefs, foodies, sommeliers, and movie aficionados to celebrate under the stars along Maui’s lovely shoreline. This year marked the 19th Annual Maui Film Festival that took place from June 13th until June 17th. Events were held at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course and the Castle Theater at Maui’s own Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.

This year celebrities of clout that made appearances include Colin Farrell, Nick Robinson and Amber Heard. Amber Heard, 32, was recognized for her dedication and success in film and received the Shining Star Award on June 15th. She’ll be leading in the upcoming blockbuster Aquaman that’s sure to be a hit! Nick Robinson, 23, won the Rising Star Award on June 14th.

While getting to capture a glimpse of some big-time celebrities is exciting, it’s only part of the appeal of this local event. Since the Maui Film Festival first started, it has shown more than 750 documentaries and short-films from around the world to the greater Maui community. This year some incredible stories were told including Zoo Movie, a fun and family-friendly story of how one group of boys saved a baby elephant, along with other captivating documentaries such as Dirt Rich, that focused on world climate change.

All and all it was a beautiful Maui Film Festival with lots to celebrate. If you didn’t make it to this year’s event then make sure to schedule ahead for the 2019 Maui Film Festival to partake in the fun!
